Book’s Shelf is the name given to Book’s garden by her friends and coworkers. Her garden is located on a moderately sized balcony attached to the main offices of Drake’s Inquisitions Agency, and is home to a wide variety of flora from all around Khorvaire. The balcony itself looks over an unimpressive side street, but many people marvel at the beauty of the garden (much to Book’s glee).
It is well known among the detectives that if Book can’t be found in the library she is likely on her “shelf” tending to the plants or tidying up the balcony. There is a small covered sitting area with a table at the edge of the balcony where many of the detectives and agency visitors will often sit and enjoy a meal or talk over the details of a case. If possible, on a daily basis Book will “take tea” at 11:00 AM, a throw back habit from her days with Master Nim. While she does not drink the tea she brews, she often uses the time to write in her diary, reflect on life, or write a letter to her old master. On occasion one of her friends will join her, but most often she is left to her own devices during this time.
Book dearly loves her “shelf” and she finds great happiness in the fact that her friends get so much use and enjoyment out of it. For her, creating natural beauty in the hard urban setting of Sharn is a great challenge and one she relishes. As for the nick name that her garden has obtained she sees the humor of the pun and is happy if it brings a smile to a friend’s face.
